Most of you guys know the history of Inside My Mind, but for those that don't, here it is.
A few years ago, I had some files to share and a single PC. I set up a small FTP server running on that PC (1.6ghz P4). To keep things simple, I got a free DNS client with a free sub-domain from No-IP.com. The FTP site kissmygrits.serveftp.com was born.
Some months later, my brother-in-law sent over a couple of PCs for me to fix. One (his girlfriends) needed a new hard drive. The other he found in an apartment where he worked as maint. He couldn't get past the Windows 2000 login screen on the second one. I fixed his girlfriend's PC using an old hard drive that I had around here. I took the second PC as my fee. The second PC was a 266mhz P2.
After reinstalling Windows 2000 Pro and checking out the PC to make sure everything was in working order, I formatted it and installed Windows 2000 Server. I changed the URL redirect to kissmygrits.hopto.org to get the "serveftp" out of the URL. Kissmygrits.hopto.org the website was born.
A few months later, during a little mischief, MSN decided to pull the plug on a couple of my passports for things posted on the message board of a private group. Within 72 hours, PHP, MySQL, and these forums were installed and up and running on the server. The original version of the Invision Power Board forums used here was 1.1.
A week before Christmas 2003, my wife asked me what I wanted. Very candidly, I told her that I wanted to build my own PC. Up until then, I had always bought pre-assembled PCs for myself, while building custom PCs for others. She gave the greenlight and I was off. My goal was to build a top of the line PC for bargain basement prices. I think that I succeded. The new PC got an MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard, 3.06ghz Pentium 4 processor(hyper-threading enabled), 512MB of PC3200 DDR RAM, CD-RW, and DVD-ROM. In addition, I bought a 120GB hard drive for my old PC, and used the 60GB hard drive from my old PC in the new one. Total cost, $796.
I got the new PC put together and up and running, then disaster struck. On the same day as the new PC got fired up, the motherboard in my old PC died. After the first of the year, I got a new motherboard for my old PC.
When I got my old PC up and running again, I set out on the mission of setting it up as the "new" webserver and moving everything over. The old webserver (P2) became my wife's PC for her weekly email check and Pogo game playing.
Everything ran smoothly until Feb. 22nd, 2004. On that date I registered the domain InsideMyMind.net and began the process of changing logos, graphics, and DNS clients. The old kissmygrits.hopto.org DNS and redirect has since been discontinued.
Since then, InsideMyMind.net has been moved over to a "professional" web host (effective June 2006). My wife now has the old "web server" PC, and I am making plans to build another "top of the line" PC for "bargain basement" prices for the release of Windows Vista.
So, there we have it. The history of InsideMyMind.net in a nutshell.

And now, we've upgraded to the latest Invision Power Board, version 3.0. There are many new features.
